Welcome to an exciting year for the Queensland Futures Institute.
Our highly acclaimed ‘Queensland Futures Summit’ will take place on Wednesday 24 August at the Brisbane Convention Centre. Queensland’s business, education, research, government and community leaders will again be attending to examine big ideas to build our future.
I am delighted to advise that Steve Baxter, entrepreneur, investor, and ‘Shark’ on Shark Tank Australia will also be participating. We will also have a fascinating session on robotics including Dr Catherine Ball, National Telstra Business Woman of the Year 2015 and Professor Jonathan Roberts, Professor in Robotics at QUT.
Over the course of 2016, we will roll out our inaugural Queensland Policy Leaders Breakfast Series featuring key policy influencers in the State.
To broaden our policy agenda our Policy Committees this year will include:
- Accessing Investment Capital
- Business and Research Collaboration
- Food and Agribusiness
- Growing Regional Queensland
- Financing Queensland’s Growth
The QFI’s approach is one of collaboration and the Queensland Futures Council plan to join with Government leaders at ‘Future State’ later this year to discuss forward-looking ideas for Queensland. We plan to continue this meeting on annual basis.
We plan to kick off a wonderful new project, “Harnessing Queensland’s Bright Ideas”, that will seek to comb Queensland to identify and harness the innovative ideas of Queenslanders, with the finalists being showcased at the Futures Summit.
I will continue to host President’s Luncheons for members and partners and have some fantastic guest speakers lined up including Dr Geoff Garrett, Queensland Chief Scientist and Dr Anita Hill, Executive Director, Future Industries, CSIRO. The Queensland Futures Council will also meet twice again this year in May and November to review and reinvigorate our policy agenda.
There are tremendous benefits in being a part of QFI. I encourage you to consider joining and making a difference to the future of Queensland.
