Established in 2014, the Queensland Futures Institute has grown exponentially, attracting interest and involvement from over a large number business, research, education and community leaders from across the State. The QFI is now broadly recognised as bringing a new multi-sectorial approach to public policy reform in Queensland.
Queensland is a dynamic state built by dynamic people and the spark for the creation of the Queensland Futures Institute came from well known Queensland dynamo, business leader and innovator, Mr Jim McKnoulty.
Jim approached Mr Steve Greenwood with the concept of the QFI and following subsequent discussions with other Queensland leaders, they determined that:
- The creation of a dynamic, robust and thriving economy is critical to the future social and environmental sustainability of Queensland
- Business and industry must take responsibility for working with the Queensland community in creating the environment necessary for growth
- We need liveable communities to attract and retain the innovators and leaders essential to the provision of creative solutions to global challenges
- The current level of public policy discussion on key growth challenges is limited; that catalytic change is needed.
With once-off seed funding from the Queensland Government, the Queensland Futures Institute was formed.
